The cowpea is a Non-GMO heirloom variety of cowpea,they grow just fine in temperate climates as well. They cannot withstand a frost however will grow in low-nutrient soil. This variety is a favorite among expert vegetable producers because of it's ability to contend with common pests and diseases and it's superior nitrogen-fixing output in soils. Sow the seeds 1/2 an inch deep into the soil. Keep the seeds and the soil moist and the beans will germinate quickly. Once germinated transplant the beans along with the sprouts into their permanent residence (if you didn't start them there already). As long as the bean plants are regularly watered and are receiving proper sun, you will be rewarded with a very hardy harvest with minimal effort and nitrogen-rich soil wherever they were planted.
