What is the difference between CAT 5 AND CAT 6?

There is no protection against interference outside of Cat 5, but Cat 6 does not protect the cables inside it.

There is a separator that prevents them from getting tangled and an aluminum foil against interference.

Additionally, cat6s are 23 AWG and cat5s are 24 AWG.

Cat5E cable operates at 100 Mhz, Cat6 Cable operates at 250 Mhz.

Cable cross-sections In the AWG system, as the number increases, the cable cross-section decreases.

For example, 24 AWG means 0.50 mm cable cross-section. 23 AWG means 0.57 mm cable cross-section.

So 23 AWG is thicker than 24 AWG. Cable thickness increases speed in the same proportion.
