About the Authorhussein Bassir: A Short Autobiography • An Egyptian archaeologist, novelist and writer. • He obtained his BA in Egyptology from the Faculty of Archeology, Cairo University. • He obtained his MA and PhD in Egyptology and Ancient Near East Archaeology at Johns Hopkins University. • He has authored many books, academic articles, novels and short stories, such as In Search of Khnum, The Old Red Hippopotamus, The Charm of Alexandria, Secrets of Antiquities, and others. • He has written, in English, a book entitled Image and Voice in Saite Egypt. • He edited a book entitled Living Forever: Self-Presentation in Ancient Egypt with a group of distinguished Egyptologists from around the world. • He writes drama for cinema and TV. • He has written the film Djoser and Imhotep: Duality of the King and the Genius • He has held many positions in Egypt and abroad. • He participated in many important archaeological discoveries made by archaeological excavation teams of Egyptian and foreign missions in many archaeological sites such as at Giza, Saqqara, Dahshur, Bahariya Oasis, Heliopolis, Napata Playa in the Western Desert, and others. • He was the Director of the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Fustat, the Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza, the Giza Pyramids. He has worked as well in prestigious International Organizations such as the UNESCO, and the Scientific Publication Department at the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, among others. • He has taught at Johns Hopkins University and the University of Arizona in the United States of America, the French University (Sorbonne 4), and others. • Recently, the German Archaeological Institute in Cairo honored him and granted him permanent membership, only granted to the most eminent archaeologists in the world. • He gives archeological lectures in Egypt and abroad. • He usually participates in documentary movies about ancient Egypt produced by international broadcast channels. • He is currently the Director of the Antiquities Museum at the Bibliotheca Alexandria.
