OverviewWhat Are HID Headlights?
HID stands for high-intensity discharge, which indicates that bulbs are brighter than standard headlights. An HID headlight contains an HID light bulb, which consists of two electrodes encased in a glass enclosure.
This enclosure is filled with xenon gas and metal salts. Because they contain xenon gas, some manufacturers refer to HID headlights as xenon lights.
HID vs. LED Headlights: What's the Difference?
Brightness: LED and HID lights can have a brightness of 10,000-20,000 lumens(Some will have higher lumens). Both, however, are brighter than traditional halogen lights.
Technology: LED lights use electricity while HID uses gas (typically xenon).
Energy Use: Both have high energy use compared to halogen.
Life Span: Both LED and HID lights last longer than halogen, up to 50,000 hours
Bulb Design: LED lights often have bulbs with diodes, locking tabs, and heat sinks. HID headlights can have outer bulbs, inner chambers, electrodes, and locking tabs.
Startup Time: LED lights start instantly while the heating filament in HID could take a short time to light.
