About the AuthorCarolina Lopez-Ruiz is a Professor of Classics at The Ohio State University. She studies the interaction between Greek and Near Eastern cultures, with a focus on the Phoenicians and North-West Semitic cultures. Her books include Tartessos and the Phoenicians in Iberia (Oxford University Press, 2016, with S. Celestino) Gods, Heroes and Monsters: A Sourcebook of Greek, Roman, and Near Eastern Myths in Translation (second edition, 2018, 1st ed. 2014), When the Gods Were Born: Greek Cosmogonies and the Near East (Harvard University Press, 2010; published in Turkish 2012), and Colonial Encounters in Ancient Iberia: Phoenician, Greek, and Indigenous Relations (University of Chicago Press, 2009, co-editor with M. Dietler). She is preparing monographs on the Phoenicians and cultural contact in the orientalizing Mediterranean. Brian R. Doak (PhD Harvard University) is Associate Professor of Biblical Studies and Faculty Fellow in the William Penn Honors Program at George Fox University, just outside of Portland, Oregon. He is the recipient of the Aviram Prize for archaeological research (2012) as well as the George Fox University Undergraduate Researcher of the Year (2014). He is the author of several books, including Phoenician Aniconism in its Mediterranean and Ancient Near Eastern Contexts (SBL Press, 2015), Heroic Bodies in Ancient Israel (Oxford University Press, 2018), and the forthcoming Ancient Israel's Neighbors (Oxford University Press).
