OverviewThe five Guillemot brothers founded Ubisoft in 1986, and soon a band of brothers became a worldwide network of people who grow and learn together. These family roots have helped shape Ubisoft today, encouraging all team members to dream big, embrace the entrepreneurial spirit and work to create an open and welcoming environment where everyone is respected . Ubisoft may have 19,000 employees in offices and studios around the world, but the company began with a family.Yves Guillemot and his four brothers, whose parents had an agricultural trading business in the Brittany region of France, developed an interest in technology while providing farmers with computer programs to track their goods and sales. It became clear to the brothers that the nascent software industry could become a very different kind of family business. Ubisoft’s expansion to a worldwide network of studios and offices spanning 55 countries began in Romania, Canada and China throughout the 1990s. Establishing an international presence was key to keeping up with the gaming industry’s explosive growth. Today, we still learn by trying new things and encourage this attitude in our teams. This allows everyone to continue to evolve and drives Ubisoft to be a pioneer in gaming and entertainment. No matter where teams start at Ubisoft, there are always opportunities to continually develop skills and acquire new ones. At Ubisoft we aim to create an environment where the freedom to imagine and design thrives. We believe that protecting this space is the only way our teams can constantly achieve and expand their potential. This freedom has allowed teams to imagine games like Prince of Persia, then evolve the franchise to become Assassin’s Creed, to create and revive a space opera in Beyond Good and Evil, as well as to be the first company to solve real-time note tracking and develop the fastest way to learn guitar with Rocksmith. Our teams push entertainment forward every day, united in the mission to enrich players’ lives with memorable gaming experiences. Ubisoft is proud to make unique, surprising games, and we know that our ability to continuously create, grow and adapt comes from our independence. Ubisoft’s teams have fought together and won to preserve this independence thanks to the values that drive the company forward. Our teams and stakeholders know that our freedom is paramount to our ethos of creativity and learning on the job and that our independent status is vital to our ongoing success.
