POLARIZED Filters: Polarizing filters are used for three important purposes. The first is to prevent reflections, the second is to increase the saturation of colors (this effect occurs as an increase in contrast in black and white photography), and the third is to act as a density filter. The polarizing filter prevents reflections from non-metallic surfaces by controlling the angle at which light enters the lens. The filter, controlled by a circular motion, does not pass light coming from all directions, but only lets in light coming from a certain angle. By blocking the light coming from other directions, reflections disappear and you have the opportunity to photograph behind a glass or the bottom of a river or the sea. Since the polarizing filter also prevents reflections, richer colors are obtained. For example, white clouds in the sky appear more contrasty.
Circular filters have a homogeneous effect. In auto focus SLR cameras and spot measurement machines, it is necessary to use a circular polarizing filter to prevent measurement errors and to use the auto focus feature.
