الميزات الأساسية
  • The first disc samples the ‘real thing’ by going back in time to some of the protagonists’ original recordings. First up is pianist Rubén González, who would be the focus of Cooder’s second Cuban-themed album.
  • Our second disc showcases Cuban musicians who broke out a couple of generations earlier. Their global impact was down to characters like Peréz Prado, Celia Cruz and Machito. All have written their names in the island’s musical hall of fame.
  • Buena Vista translates as ‘Beautiful View’ – this is beautiful listening in any language!
المواصفات
معلومات الفنانBuena Vista Social Club was an ensemble of Cuban musicians established in 1996. The project was named after the homonymous members' club in the Buena vista quarter of Havana, a popular music venue in the 1940s. A dozen veteran musicians were brought together, some of whom had been retired for many years. The first album released in September 1997, quickly becoming an international success. German director Wim Wenders captured their performances on film for a documentary which was released in June 1999 to critical acclaim, receiving an Academy Award nomination for Best Documentary feature. The success of both the album & film sparked a revival of interest in traditional Cuban music. Some of the Cuban performers later released solo albums & recorded collaborations with stars from different musical genres. The "Buena Vista Social Club" name became an umbrella term to describe them & has been likened to a brand label that encapsulates Cuba's "musical golden age" between the 1930s & 50s.
