Book Description | "I ran from my world to yours, where you were both home and ruler, and I was the army and the people who never strayed from your command. You have settled in my heart and grown, and my love for you has matured into old age. When our souls met, the outcome was unexpected: it was (the Abylian Troop). The wound, betrayal, and separation were among its results." - With this textual opening, Widian Al-Shahri begins (The Abylian Troop), perhaps to indicate through the text a meaning the poet wants to reach; which is to express the essence of (loss) indicating the absence of the man in the woman's life; she makes us feel her loss, with a transparent spirit, moving from her personal experience to a collective experience shared by others; it has its deep dimensions and distinctiveness, shaped by Al-Shahri in suggestive language, rich with tension, overflowing with paradox, hinting at infinite possibilities for what the state of the (feminine) self could be, searching for its lost existence in the relationship with the other (man). These are the very vocabulary of the (emotional/feeling) experience unique to each woman, which the poet was able to observe and mark in the text. Therefore, she defines her book by saying: "Not everything written here expresses a personal experience I have gone through; some of what I will mention comes from the experiences of people I loved who suffered from it, and I chose to convey it to you and live it with you. Some of what I will mention is woven from imagination, and some describes what I have personally experienced." "The Abylian Troop" consists of (124) prose segments composed of short sentences and phrases resembling signatures or highly condensed snapshots, which helped in the growth of the poem's movement and the unfolding of its events to reach its conclusions. "As I was writing this conclusion, there was a person who made me happy just by being next to me, illuminating the dark side of my heart, so I wished for him to be a man unlike the previous one." - From the atmosphere of "The Abylian Troop," we read: "Now it happens that I wear the garment of parting and leave./ now it happens that I tear you away from me to breathe pure air./ now it happens that I write these letters with all my strength/ while inside me it is the complete opposite./ now it happens that I cry over your presence with me as if I have lost you./ now all I write about parting is a (lie) I continue to say to master it one day." |
