About the AuthorDouglas J. Besharov is the Norman and Florence Brody Professor at the University of Maryland School of Public Policy, where he teaches courses on poverty, welfare, children and families, policy analysis, program evaluation, and performance management. A former president of the Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management, he is also a senior fellow at the Atlantic Council, where he leads a program on international policy exchanges. Mark Hugo Lopez is the Director of Hispanic Research at the Pew Research Center. He is an author of reports about the Hispanic electorate, Hispanic identity and US immigration trends. Lopez also coordinates the center's National Survey of Latinos, an annual nationwide survey of Hispanics. Lopez frequently appears in national and international media in both Spanish and English.
