About the AuthorDr. Peter Jenniskens is an expert on meteor showers, best known for his identification of a minor planet 2003 EH1 as the parent body of the Quadrantid shower, and for the recovery of fragments of asteroid 2008 TC3, which was the first time an asteroid was spotted in space, observed by telescopes, then samples retrieved. He is a meteor astronomer with the SETI Institute and NASA Ames Research Center in California and Principal Investigator of the NASA-sponsored Cameras for Allsky Meteor Surveillance (CAMS) project, an international network of low-light video cameras for meteor triangulation. Previously, he authored the 2006 book "Meteor Showers and their Parent Comets", about the dynamical mechanisms of meteoroid stream evolution. Dr. Jenniskens is also the former chair of the International Astronomical Union's Working Group on Meteor Shower Nomenclature and a founding member.
