Book Description | After adding the literary legacy of the most popular poet in the Arab world, Nizar Qabbani, to its list of publications, which explored various fields such as politics, nationalism, and especially love and womanhood, Nofal is now releasing his individual collections in a new modern format, as a tribute and appreciation for the poet of love and woman, the poet of Beirut and Damascus, the poet of dreams and revolution. Nizar Qabbani was born "the poet of love and woman" in 1923 into an illustrious Damascene family. He studied law at the Syrian University. Immediately after graduating in 1945, he joined the diplomatic corps and spent nearly two decades moving from one capital to another, engaging with diverse cultures. After publishing his first collection, "The Dark-Skinned Woman Told Me," in 1944, his works varied between poetry, prose, and politics. Each of his releases was like a storm sweeping through the Arab world. Several of his poems were celebrated by a selection of renowned singers, from Umm Kulthum to Fairuz and Majida El Roumi to Kadim Al Sahir. Nizar Qabbani marked a significant turning point in everything he authored, and despite the personal tragedies he endured, he continued to dream, love, protest, and write until his last breath. He passed away in London in 1998 and was buried in his hometown, Damascus. |
