About the AuthorAbbas Naini, BA, MA, PhDAbbas Naini earned his BA and MA in Economics from the National University and a PhD in Econometrics and Industrial Organization from Dalhousie University. He worked and held various positions in different energy organizations including the Alberta Energy Resources Conservation Board (now known as the Alberta Energy Regulator), the Canadian Petroleum Institute, British Columbia Hydro, and the Canadian Energy Research Institute. He taught Production and Operations Management, Macro and Microeconomics, Applied Statistics, Linear Programming, and Energy Economics at the Haskayne School of Business and the Economics Department of the University of Calgary. He is the author and co-author of research articles published in several professional journals, including Energy Economics; Energy Studies Review; Journal of Canadian Petroleum Technology; Energy Sources; and OPEC Review. Thorn Walden, BSc, MBAThorn Walden earned a BSc in Chemistry and Mathematics and an MBA in finance, both from the University of British Columbia. He has worked as an economist and management consultant for the governments of Tanzania and Kenya; consulting organizations Watts Marketing Research Ltd; Hu Harries and Associates Ltd, and Montreal Engineering Company, as well as the Alberta Energy Resources Conservation Board (now known as the Alberta Energy Regulator), and the Canadian Energy Research Institute. He is the author of research articles in several professional journals, including Geopolitics of Energy, the Journal of Canadian Petroleum Technology, and the Canadian Operational Research Society Journal. He has reviewed applications to construct coal mines, electric power plants, transmission lines, and petrochemical plants and assessed whether these projects would be in the public interest.
