Book DescriptionThe novel begins with the tormented girl Sarah on the plane on her way to London, where her brother Faisal is her soulmate and partner in pain after her mother abandoned them and after the weak father married a tyrannical woman, and the life of the two boys became hell as they moved between homes in which they felt unwanted, including the home of the cruel aunt. Suspended between her psychological suffering and images of the past and present, Sarah begins by saying, “My breathing becomes short, the sweat is drenching my face abundantly and dripping on my clothes... I struggle to breathe. I am surrounded by images of the depressing past. A girl with torn clothes screams in terror. I lose control of myself and my eyes fill with tears as I succumb to the seizure again." The flight attendant asked her in a whisper, with a smile on her lips, “Are you going to take off your abaya and niqab like the others?” She says, “She looked around in astonishment. In fact, less than an hour after we boarded the plane, the majority of women transformed from bodies shrouded in black into first-class actresses, broadcasters, and models. She gripped my niqab tightly, as if I were I fear that it will be forcibly taken from me. Nafiyya chanted, “No, no, I will not take off my niqab or abaya.” She says to the flight attendant, “If my brother saw me without my abaya, he would kill me.” The host’s smile turns from friendly to sarcastic, and when she tells her that her brother has been living in London for two years, the host responds, laughing, saying, “Then rest assured... he has completely forgotten your abaya, and he will be astonished when he sees you like this.”
