Book Description | Kalila and Dimna by Abdullah bin Al-Muqaffa... The book consists of fifteen main chapters that include many stories whose heroes are animals, and among the most prominent animal characters included in the book is the lion who plays the role of the king, and his servant the bull who is called “Shatrabah” (or Shanzabah). In some versions), in addition to two jackals, “Kalila” and “Dimna.” It also includes four other chapters that appeared in the first pages of the book, which are: the chapter on the introduction to the book, the chapter on Barzawayh’s mission to the countries of India, the chapter on the presentation of the book (translated by Abdullah bin Al-Muqaffa), and the chapter on Barzueh (translated by Buzurjamihr bin Al-Bakhtakan). The Arabic version of the book played a major and important role in its spread and transfer to the languages of the world, either directly through the Arabic text or through intermediary languages taken from the Arabic text. Ancient Arab critics classify the book Kalila and Dimna in the first class of Arab books and make it one of the four excellent books, along with Al-Kamil by Al-Mubarrad, Al-Bayan and Al-Tabyin by Al-Jahiz, and Al-Umdah by Ibn Rasheq. |
