The release of each was akin to a storm sweeping through the Arab world. Many of his poems were brought to life by renowned singers, from Umm Kulthum to Fairuz, Majida El Roumi, and Kazem El Saher. Nizar Qabbani marked a distinctive signature in all his compositions, and despite the personal tragedies that befell him, he continued to dream, love, rebel, and write until his last breath. He passed away in London in 1998 and was buried in his birthplace, Damascus." |
