Book Description | Despite the importance that vocabulary and its studies have gained, there are still a number of misconceptions about learning and teaching vocabulary. In this book, the author listed and discussed eight misconceptions in an attempt to highlight the misapplications in eight aspects related to learning and teaching vocabulary, based on his personal experience as a learner of a large number of languages, as well as on the results of many applied researches that expose many of the fallacies in... Many people deal with language teaching in general, and vocabulary studies in particular. It is worth noting that the author calls these “misconceptions” (myths) “myths” or “myths”, but I preferred to translate them into “misconceptions” instead of “myths” or “myths” because these two words may carry a large negative connotation in the language. Arabic may not resemble or reflect what the writer actually means in English, or what the state of those concepts reflects in the reality of vocabulary studies. The organization of this book is characterized by extreme simplicity. It begins with an introduction that presents a brief summary of some basic concepts about second language vocabulary. Then the writer devotes a separate chapter to each fallacy, with eight chapters that address by research and discussion all of these misconceptions. Each chapter begins with a section called “On the Ground,” which describes an actual teaching situation. This is followed by a section called “Research Evidence.” Each chapter ends with a list of educational applications called “What You Can Do.” The book ends with a brief conclusion of what was discussed in all its chapters. . |
