| Book Description | To celebrate the short story and its writers, the Literature, Publishing and Translation Authority is launching the short story collection (A Saudi Village) within the series (Stories from Saudi Arabia), through which the Authority aims to monitor selections written by pens within the Saudi geographic scope. This issue is the beginning of the special editions of the series, in which the stories revolve around a specific topic. The Authority chose the topic for this collection to be: life in the village. Saudi villages - regardless of their geographical locations - have a similar identity as much as they are similar in human nature, which is always searching for belonging to the group, which was the primary motivation for its formation, or the desire to leave it in search of a different life and larger communities. It is also a different identity as much as its environment and terrain are diverse, which shape the character and customs of its residents and determine their means of livelihood. That is why we aim for this work to introduce the culture of Saudi villages to recipients locally, regionally, and globally. In this collection are ten short stories whose events took place in Saudi villages, to convey and document customs, traditions, values and frames of mind that may not be repeated as they were in their time. So we discover how they live in their villages even if they do not live in them. |
