Book Description	Teaching Children Gymnastics, Second Edition, shows teachers how to use an innovative and individualized approach to teaching gymnastics skills and how to link those skills into sequences. The learning experiences are divided into three skill themes: traveling, statics, and rotation. The chapter objectives, scenarios, and questions for reflection help teachers think about and apply the material in meaningful ways. Part II is organized around three skill themes: traveling, statics, and rotation. There are 10 detailed learning experiences for each theme. Additional ideas are provided for those who want to create their own learning experiences. The appendix handouts are ready-to-copy forms, such as student certificates and gymnastics report cards, and can be used as they are or they can be customized. Sample forms include task cards, lesson design worksheets, and sample lesson plans. An annotated suggested readings list provides teachers in training as well as experienced teachers and recreation leaders a ready resource for expanding their understanding and skills related to developmentally appropriate gymnastics.

About the Author	Peter Werner, PED, has been teaching physical education, including gymnastics, to children for over 34 years. A professor in physical education at the University of South Carolina, Dr. Werner has presented at numerous national conferences for the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance and for the National Association for Sport and Physical Education; he has presented a session on educational gymnastics at an international conference as well. Dr. Werner is senior editor for Teaching Elementary Physical Education and has served in editorial roles for many other physical education publications. He has been recognized numerous times for his contributions to physical education, including the Ada B. Thomas Outstanding Faculty Advisor Award in 2001 from the University of South Carolina; the South Carolina Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance Achievement Award in 2002 for having a major influence on the careers of elementary physical educators; and the Margie Hanson Service Award in 2002 from the Council on Physical Education for Children. He is one of the authors of Interdisciplinary Teaching Through Physical Education (1998, Human Kinetics) and has written hundreds of articles. Dr. Werner and his wife make their home in Columbia, South Carolina, where he also enjoys whitewater canoe instructing, marathon running, and hand-crafting brooms.
