| وصف الكتاب | This book is dedicated to applicants in China and other nations. The essays are successful personal statements, statements of purpose and application essays to first-rate graduate schools, colleges and universities in Western countries including United States of America, Canada, The United Kingdom, Germany, France, Australia, Sweden, Russia and other European countries, in a wide variety of fields of study in the sciences and the humanities. By default, the essays are personal statements unless specified. They were written from 2005 to 2016 and are listed in reverse chronological order within each category. Most of them are written based on a significant number of raw materials provided by the applicants in the Chinese language and are a true reflection of the backgrounds and experience of the applicants. During the writing process, the raw materials are screened, selected, organized, compiled, condensed, extracted, highlighted and showcased. In some sense, it is the integration of creation, translation and editing. The book was formatted in Microsoft Word and some essays have retained their original format in order to resemble a true application essay. This collection aims at illustrating that there isn't one set of standards for a successful personal statement or statement of purpose across different English-speaking countries and different fields. Instead, a truly successful personal statement or statement of purpose is the one that can touch the humanity and heartstrings of admissions committees and professors of top schools in all Western countries by thoughtfully expressing the true achievement and intent of each applicant. It is worth noting that even though the author endeavored to perfect each essay in each moment, readers of this book should understand that perfection is a process and not a destination. There is no such thing as a perfect application essay. Perfection is improving at each stage, getting better and better! If this book can inspire a reader to write a better application essay, its purpose is fulfilled. |
| عن المؤلف | Chen Du was a PhD Candidate in the Molecular and Cellular Biophysics and Biochemistry PhD Program at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, the State University of New York at Buffalo in 2002. She has a Master's Degree in Biophysics from the State University of New York at Buffalo and a Master's Degree in Radio Physics with the concentration of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance from the Chinese Academy of Sciences. In 2005, Chen Du was honored by being included in the list of Leading Scientists of the World 2005 by the International Biographical Centre of Cambridge. Generally speaking, Chen Du has schooled for 22 years and 10 months and engaged in nearly seven years of graduate studies including three years and eight months of PhD training in Biophysics at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, the State University of New York at Buffalo. She published three English papers including two first authored papers in the field of NMR at the Chinese Academy of Sciences. She is also the inventor to a Chinese patent.Chen Du is a translator, a voting member of the American Translators Association and a member of Translators Association of China, The American Literary Translators Association and Poetry Society of America. She has also served as Deputy Secretary General and Executive Council Member of Shaanxi Translation Association since summer 2013. She has worked as a professional in the translation field and English application essay writing field since 2004. She excelled in the Interpreting and Translation Studies Master's Program at Wake Forest University in fall 2016. She revised the most part of the Chinese translation of the biography of Helen Snow, Helen Foster Snow - An American Woman in Revolutionary China, which has been published in China. She has also worked on some translation projects of Xi'an Municipal People's Government and The People's Government of Shaanxi Province.She has successfully helped more than 500 Chinese students in preparing for their application materials for first-rate Western universities, and have helped clients obtain offers from some of the most prestigious universities in the world, such as, Columbia University, The University of Chicago, Berkeley and UCLA, etc. The most brilliant clients of her include a member of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the recipient of the highest scores in the AS Mathematics and Economics Examinations in the world in the exam year, and the recipient of the German government's DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) International Scholarship for Artists, etc. The essays written by Chen Du have also helped one client win a five-year scholarship of USD 110,000 in total for the Architecture major from a top 50 American university.In general, Chen Du has composed more than 423,500 words of English essays in the English essay editing field, translated more than 376,900 Chinese characters of materials in the Chinese-English translation field, and revised more than 194,000 words of English essays in the English essay editing field. All these works can sum up to more than 1.34 million English words / Chinese characters.Chen Du is also an English-writing poet and is trying to publish her first chapbook of English poems. |
