OverviewPanasonic Corporation, formerly Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. is a major Japanese multinational electronics company, headquartered in Kadoma, Osaka. At the time, Matsushita had dominated the home video market with the company's leading position in the electronics market. It had gotten strengthened by VHS, the de facto standard of consumer videotape that Matsushita and JVC co-introduced. Inspired by Sony's bold quest for Hollywood, Matsushita believed it could become a leader in the film industry as well.
