Book Description | These recipes may be delicious with lots of pictures (up to 6 per dish!) but most of the dishes seem quite gourmet. Perhaps this is what the chefs cook on their off days because many of the ingredients are unfamiliar to me. Okay, for example, lets say I decide my budget allows for the "Slow cooked Duck Legs in a Spicy Orange Sauce" and I run to my local grocer to get some duck legs and ingredients that I don't normally keep stalked in my pantry or fridge like the lemon grass stalks, thai chilis, five spice powder and nuoc cham (which could also be easily substituted with "tuk trey.") Now, this recipe also calls for palm sugar, fresh root ginger & fresh garlic & fresh lime which I can probably find somewhere down the street. But in reality all I have on hand for this dish is the salt & pepper & maybe some O.J. So, I'm guessing that this main dish will easily cost more in additional ingredients than the meat itself. Surely, there are better values as I am just skimming the book now. Well, here's one that says it's kid friendly "Cheesy Aubergines" which I can assure you my children wouldn't touch. However, I do have most of the ingredients on hand except the grano padano cheese and the eggplants |
