Book DescriptionBroken Republic by Arundhati Roy talks about India and the large multinational companies that are taking over India's poor people's businesses. Mining, Maoism, poverty, cruelty and whether India is truly advancing in development are also discussed in detail in the book. Roy ridicules the large mining companies like Posco and Vedanta, who are exploiting miners and tribals in Chhattisgarh and Orissa. She shares her wonderful experience with the Naxalites in the Chhattisgarh forests and describes how kind and nice they were to her. Describing their fears of how the government is eradicating them from their homeland, she takes readers into a world that is unseen. The author brings the reader's attention to the Maoist, Cherukuri Rajkumar, who was trying to settle a negotiation between the Maoists and the government and was mysteriously killed. The author raises questions about the government's involvement in his death. Broken Republic was published by Penguin India in 2013 and is available in paperback.
