| About the Author | Photographer alfred stieglitz (1864-1946) was instrumental in the development of modern art in america during the early 20th century. In 1902 he established the photo-secession group, a movement that elevated photography from a routine form of documentation to the realm of fine art. The following year, he founded the periodical camera work, a forum for the introduction of new aesthetic theories by artists, critics, and writers. |
