Book SubtitleThe Transformation Of Bank Of Baroda
Book DescriptionDare to Lead is the fascinating story of how Anil K. Khandelwal transformed Bank of Baroda (BOB) from being just another public sector bank into one of the most valuable brands in Indian banking. This is the story of the leadership challenges, management solutions and personal and professional excitement the author experienced in transforming the 97-year-old bank into a modern, tech-savvy, customer-centric bank. This book is an excellent blueprint for undertaking transformation in large, geographically dispersed public sector enterprises. It describes how a large-sized bank was transformed on all parameters with clear vision, execution discipline, customer centricity and people engagement. The author emphasizes that large-scale transformation can be undertaken successfully only if the CEO shows courage to change the status quo and mobilize the human effort within the organization. The story of BOB's transformation has captured international attention and finds its mention in Harvard Business Review, Human Resource Development International and the book The India Way by the Wharton School faculty.
Editorial ReviewA telling saga of leadership revealed in engaging prose...narrated in a simple and straightforward manner...the story is full of passion, the zeal to do something really great...Mr Khandelwal has synthesized his wisdom and experiences into 18 key pointers, which is the hallmark of the book...a valuable case study reference for CEOs of public sector and private sector banks, senior management executives, management consultants, HR professionals, and management teachers and students. -- ASCI Journal of Management It's often said that the experience of reaching a destination is more interesting than the destination itself. The same holds true for this book... It's a must read for human resource managers... the book broadly deals with challenges that a leader faces while bringing about changes in a large corporation. There are a number of things to learn from them. I found the recounting of the journey to reach the top more interesting. On the whole, the book has innumerable pearls of wisdom for a reader. -- Outlook Money The book, a written account of [the author's] varied experiences from his career-long journey; it has 18 lessons, and is a rare case study for CEOs, an insightful study for students and scholars, and a motivational piece for other PSUs -- The Hindu The autobiography of Bank of Baroda's ex-chief is riveting...In Dare to Lead, Anil Khandelwal shows how Bank of Baroda or BoB, got a handle on the human aspects of running a bank much better than other public sector banks, or even the private ones. -- Business Today Complex issues of managing a large government-owned corporation are captured in the book... This is an important book for many reasons. It gives us a perspective of the constraints under which our public sector works...It tells us a story of what is possible within this constrains...It tells us the human side of banking...Khandelwal's style is simple and straight, almost reducing the book to a guide-book for public sector bankers. -- Vikalpa Dare to Lead, is a book definitely worth reading...[This book] brings out the trials, tribulations, dilemma and apprehensions of khandelwal as he embarks on his ambitious journey. What is noteworthy is that the changes were brought about by khandelwal who was not a traditional career banker but an HR professional...Both the academicians and the professionals will find this book on leadership and management useful. -- Business India This book is a detailed analysis of the transformation of a bank which is today third largest public sector bank in India and very fascinating and inspiring life of Mr Khandelwal.... It's a must read for all who dare to lead -- ManagementMix Anil Khandelwal`s insider account of the transformation of a bank in India is not only a practical case study of leadership in action; it is a guide to the challenges of success in emerging markets that will be valuable for global managers of the future. -- Rosabeth Moss Kanter A very lucid journey of a successful leader and a public servant. Khandelwal`s eighteen leadership lessons crystallized from 37 years of experience are inspiring for future generation of Leaders. -- Ram Charan This is a marvelous read for those charged with transforming their organizations.
