Book SubtitleEin Einstieg in Die Methode
Book DescriptionThe basic idea of this introduction to the method of finite elements is borne by the concept that the complex method can only be explained using one-dimensional elements. The mathematical description thus remains largely simple and manageable. The focus in each chapter is on the explanation of the method and its understanding itself. The reader learns to understand the assumptions and derivations for various physical problems in structural mechanics and to critically assess the possibilities and limits of the method of finite elements. The limitation to one-dimensional elements thus enables the methodical understanding of important subject areas (e.g. plasticity or composite materials) that a budding calculation engineer encounters in professional practice, but are rarely dealt with in this form at universities. This makes it easy to get started - even in further application areas - thanks to the concept (a) introduction to the basics (b) exact derivation when restricting to one-dimensional elements (and in many cases also to one-dimensional problems) (c) extensive examples and further tasks ( with short solution in the appendix). As an illustration, each chapter is deepened with examples that have been worked out in detail and commented on, as well as with further tasks including short solutions.
About the AuthorProf. Dr.-Ing. Markus Merkel studied mechanical engineering at the University of Erlangen-Nurnberg and did his doctorate there at the chair for technical mechanics. He has been a professor at Aalen University since 2004 and represents the finite element method in teaching. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Andreas OEchsner studied aerospace engineering at the University of Stuttgart and did his doctorate at the University of Erlangen-Nurnberg. He has been a professor of mechanical engineering at the Esslingen University of Applied Sciences since 2018 and is responsible, among other things, for training students in lightweight construction and structural simulation.
