It is the aircraft produced by General Dynamics within the scope of the LWF (Lightweight Fighter project) project, which was launched in the late 1960s, and won the LWF Project. Today, the air forces of 29 countries in the world use different models of the F-16 fighter jet.[6] Nowadays, improved versions are produced for export, although not for the US Air Force. In 1993, General Dynamics sold its aircraft production rights to Lockheed, which merged with Martin Marietta and became Lockheed Martin.
The F-16 has undergone numerous renovations for dogfighting; the canopy was made in the shape of a water drop for a better view, the control lever was moved to the right to facilitate the pilot in turns with high G-force, and the pilot's seat was tilted backwards to reduce the G-force acting on the pilot. Its armament consists of the M61 Vulcan cannon inside the hull and various missiles that can be mounted at eleven loading points. It is also the first fighter aircraft capable of withstanding 9G. It can climb powerfully and accelerate vertically when necessary, provided that its thrust-to-weight ratio is not higher than 1. Although the F-16's official name is Fighting Falcon, pilots refer to it as Viper.
