Book SubtitleThe Combat Debut Of The T-35A Tank
Book DescriptionThe Soviet T-35A is the only five-turreted tank in history to enter production. With a long and proud service history on Soviet parade grounds, the T-35A was forced to adapt to the modern battlefield when the Second World War broke out. Outclassed and outdated, the T-35A tried to hold its own against the German invaders to no avail. Very little is known about these strange vehicles, beyond their basic shape and photographs of them on parade grounds and battlefields. For the first time, actual battlefield photographs have been cross-referenced with maps and documents to bring about the most complete look at the T-35A in the Second World War to date. It is a grim depiction of the aftermath of the giants that were the Soviet T-35A tanks.
Editorial ReviewAnother fine addition to the Tsouras production of imaginative 'what if' literature focused on military scenarios. In this one he has collaborated with British authors for some essays on British topics. Tsouras is especially strong on the Russian episodes as he is a scholar on Russian military affairs... The maps are excellent. I especially enjoy the deft use of the typical vocabulary one reads in accounts of actual military history. In each case the authors do not simply launch into a revisionist account, but rather create an altered 'historical' background of sufficient depth to make the subsequent account of the events plausible. And they follow through with some theoretical results. Then they bring the readers back to earth with a short summary of what really happened.--John Sloan "xenophon-mil.org " "One of the intellectual challenges and delights of reading history is imagining how past events could have followed different paths... The deviations from history are thought provoking, giving readers a good sense of just how many different ways the Great War could have gone, and shedding insight into strategic decision-making."--World War One Illustrated, Summer 2018
About the AuthorFrancis Pulham first went to Bovington Tank Museum when he was 12. He walked away with a model of a Soviet KV-2, and he was never the same again. He has had a strange passion for anything Soviet ever since and once he got his hands on a model T-35, it was love at first sight. Ever since then, he has endeavoured to bring this exciting chapter of often-overlooked history to more people. He lives in Brighton with his family and three cats.
