About the Author | Katherine E. Brown is Senior Lecturer in Islamic Studies at the Department of Theology and Religion, University of Birmingham. She specializes in research pertaining to gender, jihad, and counterterrorism, and examines Muslim women's involvement in political violence, the role of gender in jihadist ideology, and the gendered impact of counterterrorism policies and practices worldwide.
