Book DescriptionWhy Do We Have Difficulty Having Meaningful Conversations About Race? While Speaking On Race With Her First Book, Witness To The Truth, Cleo Scott Brown Discovered Recurring Questions, Issues, Misinformation, And Attitudes About Race That Regularly Derailed Meaningful Discussions. Raceology 101 Addresses And Illuminates Fundamental Issues That Impede Progress In Race Relations Today Using Stories Along With Insight From The Past. While Raceology 101 Focuses Primarily On Divisions Between Black And White Americans, The Oldest And Most Ingrained In Law, It Does Address Other Divisions, And Its Lessons Are Applicable In Any Environment Where People Are Treated Differently Based On Color, Culture, Or Economic Class. Raceology 101 Represents A Storehouse Of Wisdom For A Generation Now Being Forced To Confront America's Past And Its Continued Impact On America's Future. It Is Only In Confronting And Understanding The Past That Today's Problems Can Be Solved.
About the AuthorCLEO SCOTT BROWN writes and speaks nationally on issues of race, class, and voting. All her work-her writings, workshops, and speaking-are designed for increased understanding that leads to introspection and change. She is the author of "Witness to the Truth" (University of South Carolina Press), a Ouachita Parish (Monroe, LA) River Reads book selection. Her commentaries have also appeared in the Post & Courier (Charleston) and she is a contributor to Harvard University's African American National Biography. As the daughter of a civil rights leader who was subjected to acts of violence and extreme racial prejudice starting at a young age, Cleo is critically aware of the journey that must be taken to move toward seeing individuals beyond what we feel their race represents. It has been the lessons of the journey that have allowed her, without bitterness or anger, to now share the wisdom of history in a way that moves people to introspection which eventually leads to positive action. Cleo lives in Goose Creek, SC.
