Sandlin received his bachelor of science from the University of Alabama, where he studied mechanical engineering. Later he obtained a graduate degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. He is a full-time Missile Flight Test Engineer at Redstone Arsenal.
