Book Description | This book is a basic introduction to water distribution systems, including definition of its common elements, modelling theory, basic planning, operational and management issues, as well as some advanced topics including leakage management, optimal design, asset planning and management, etc. Each chapter is written from both the academic and industrial points of view and cover the basic topics on water distribution networks - a uniquely useful book - applicable across the sectors. Water Distribution Systems will satisfy the needs of postgraduates and early-stage practitioners, training to become water industry practitioners. |
About the Author | Savic Background Chartered Engineer with over twenty years of research, teaching and consulting experience in various water-engineering disciplines. Education * PhD (1990), Civil Eng., University of Manitoba, Canada. * MSc (1987), Civil Eng., University of Belgrade, Yugoslavia. * Dipl. Ing. (1983), Civil Eng., University of Belgrade, Yugoslavia. Research Research interests include hydroinformatics, computer modelling, decision support techniques, risk and uncertainty, optimisation and design methodologies, with applications to water and wastewater systems, and environmental protection and management. Teaching and Admin After five years of holding the EPSRC Advanced Research Fellowship (2001-2005), which allowed me to devote myself to personal research and relieved me of regular teaching and admin duties I am contributing to both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching Civil engineers are leading players in the provision and operation of the infrastructure which underpins all successful economies. I like teaching engineering subjects at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. These are subjects related to civil engineering, computers, optimisation and sustainable water infrastructure. Centre for Water Systems Co-founder and Director of the centre with probably the largest UK group working in the area of water systems engineering. The Centre for Water Systems at the University of Exeter tries to meet a real need for research into water systems engineering. As the expansion and development of the world population continues, it brings with it increased industrialisation, intensive agriculture, increased pollution and climate change, putting severe pressure on natural water resources. The provision of a reliable and sustainable supply of safe, clean water, appropriate treatment and disposal of wastewater and the safeguard of our natural environment are high priorities for all countries.
