Book Description | Welcome to What's Tha Mean, Tha Jacking In?, the fifth volume of Martyn Johnson's acclaimed series of stories about policing during the 1960s and 1970s. Whether 'on the beat' or 'as CID', once again Martyn enthrals, surprises and shocks his readers with tales set in an almost forgotten era: a veritable Lost World of people, places and phrases in his beloved Sheffield. Steven Spielberg please note. _x005F_x005F_x000D_ _x005F_x005F_x000D_ This book will focus on Martyn's final years as a beat bobby, with more unbelievable true life tales told with Martyn's wicked sense of humour and candour. As usual, Martyn's down-to-earth honesty and humour shines through the pages; but he never loses sight of the human condition in all its forms: good, bad, sad and happy |
About the Author | Born in 1943, at Darfield, near Barnsley, Martyn's first job at the age of fifteen was as a blacksmith but in his late teens joined Sheffield City Police, working on the streets of Attercliffe and Darnall until 1969. A few interesting years in CID followed but he returned to grassroot policing, serving for another seven years. A long-time resident of Wentworth, Martyn was consulted by author Catherine Bailey when she was compiling her best-selling book Black Diamonds. More recently, with his wife Christine, Martyn published Wentworth in Old Photographs. |
